With the spirit of Martin Luther King Jr Day I write…
Martin Luther King Jr was one of many civil rights activist who fought for equal rights. Without people like him I would not be where I am today as a black woman in America. I now live a life free from segregation and I have so much opportunity. I was one of the children he spoke so passionately about in his I Have a Dream Speech.
I enjoy the luxury of being free and enjoying friendships with so many cultures and races. I have built so many relationships with people that look different than me on the outside. I could not imagine missing this privilege.
The reminder of Martin Luther King Jr pushes me to fight for what I believe in. He didn’t give up on the goals he had for our equal rights. I have that same desire.
Once I started believing in myself, my mind shifted. Yes, there are days when believing in myself is difficult but I push on. My mind is set on being who I am supposed to be. I choose to fight for what I believe in.
What are you believing in? Do you believe in yourself enough to fight? Is there a mission bigger than yourself like Martin Luther King Jr had that is motivating you?
Will you fight for what you believe in?
