Expectations

An intense belief that something will happen. Expectations…

We place expectations on ourselves, our children, family, friends and many other people. A common phrase is “I have high expectations for you” Why do we do this?

There are healthy and unhealthy expectations. I dealt with the unhealthy side of expectations. If you read my previous blog called “The Perfectionist” you know what I mean. I set the bar so high for myself that I made it unreachable. I was too hard on myself to the point where I was lead to therapy to recover.

Expectations are good to have but I believe we get lost in meeting those expectations. Having ambition is good but you have to give yourself grace. You need room to mess up so that you can become stronger. The lessons I learned from my mistakes have shaped my character.

So give yourself healthy expectations. Don’t allow the expectations you set for yourself or others stress you out. Know that God is in control. He knows the plans He has for you and for those around you. Lean into Gods expectations for you. The Bible is the best tool. It teaches us how to live and sets our expectations.

Trust in the plan of God instead of your own. I’m learning that it is so much better. Knowing that I am reaching Gods expectations is rewarding. He embraces me even if I don’t meet the criteria. His unconditional love gives me all the peace I need to keep going and growing.

Expectations…
