As a student we learn how to write essays. A part of that process is your rough draft. This draft is the one that the teacher marks up with corrections so you can finish your assignment.
As I take a look over my blogging this year I see a lot of rough drafts. I have not created a blog since last year. Some are not even full drafts but just a title.
Truthfully, my writing slowed down and I lost interest in motivating others through writing. One of the last blog post I wrote addressed grief. Grief is a process and it shows up in different ways. For me it showed up in my writing.
My father and grandmother passed away. They were both a big part of my writing journey. My father wrote all the time and even published some books. My grandmother believed in me as a child and published one of my poems in a book filled with other writers.
So writing became a reminder of loss for me. So I put my pen down. I realize now that writing is a huge part of my life and I have to keep doing it. I refuse to have a life full of rough drafts that never make it to the final draft.
I encourage you to go back to the rough draft, make your edits and finalize it. There is so much in life that you can accomplish. Just pick up the pen again or pick up that talent again. Whatever it is that you stopped doing, don’t leave it as a rough draft. Finish the draft….
