One of the hardest things for me to do is to rest. What I mean by rest is be still. Being still means quieting my mind, my spirit and body. I think of rest as “just be” Rest allows my mind to calm down.
Recently I was affirmed that rest is alright. I can allow myself time to just be. Quieting the noise of the day and focusing on relaxing is not always easy. There is so much noise in the day but you have to make a decision to shut it off. You are in control of cutting the noise switch off.
Today, I am alright with resting from other obligations and just resting with my kids. I know you are like how can that be rest. Kids require a lot. What I mean is I am resisting and quieting any outside noises that will distract me from being with them today. They deserve the calm, uninterrupted, rested version of me because it gives them comfort.
So, I rest and embrace the quietness of quality time with my children. My attention is not divided. I’m focused on peace and spending time with them. I have embraced their idea of fun today, read stories, gave high fives and laughed a lot.
I believe if people continue to show children the none rested version of themselves children will duplicate this. I encourage those reading to be mindful of the example you set around children. They are like sponges and soak up just about anything. A calm spirit makes it easier for them to grow and develop.
Lay aside any anxieties, weights or distractions that may keep you in a place that is not beneficial for you. Just find rest in whatever way you need it. Mine was with my children. Your version of rest may look different but you deserve to feel the peace of God. Children deserve that too. Embrace the rest you deserve.
“Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.”
